How the Bible Became a Book
Ever wonder how the Bible got its name? It came from the Greek word for ‘many books’---biblia---the plural of the Greek word for book, biblos. Interestingly enough, the word biblos, comes from the ancient Mediterranean seaport, Byblos, which is located on the coast of modern-day Lebanon. One of the abundant items this port shipped out was papyrus, because for many years scribes used to copy the books of the Bible onto the leaves of the papyrus plant. So, in essence, the Bible was named after the port of Byblos for its big shipments of papyrus, which is the Greek word for paper or scrolls! Learn many more fascinating things about the Bible in this class, the book that has sold more copies than any other book ever!
